So, I read the book and fell in love with it. I know Tatum and Seyfried aren't the best actors, but I wanted to like them and went along with it. Of course, it could've been better, but I appreciated it for what it was.

It's a story of a soldier, John Tyree (Tatum), while on ...( read more)leave meets this innocent college girl, Savannah (Seyfried) and in two weeks, they fell in love. While he returns to his duties across seas, they promise to write eachother as much as they can. Then, life happens.

COME ON! Somebody please do something about this Nicholas Sparks character. And no more Channing Tatum. Channing you were miserable as Duke in GI JOE.

What is N. Sparks and his obsession with writing letters in these movies? Letters every day! Lets number them so we can ...( read more)have them in order! Lets use them for toilet paper if the world has a paper shortage due to us writing so many letters! Bah!

OK - I was forced to watch this over the weekend as part of the annual Valentines day penance. I spent two hours in a chair with NO popcorn hoping this thing would be at least partially as good as the Notebook (which is fair if you are forced to watch). No luck.

I will take back the Channing comment from my pre watching comment. Tatum and his interaction with his Autistic father was, to me, the only part of this movie worth watching. The only part that didn't feel contrived and cliched and was not a copy/paste from previous N. Sparks books.

As the credits rolled, I said loudly, "Thank God!" The Male portion of several couples surrounding us chuckled appreciativly. The female portion laughed louder when I recieved a elbow in the gut.

    SPOILERS AHEAD!

I said WTF at least 3 times in this movie. 1st was the breakup. Not just a breakup but dumped because miss perfect is engaged. blah blah blah, 7 years go by or something. No intereaction. Chan goes home when his father is sick and looks up Savannah, finds out she married Eliot from E.T. and is now drinking (just some wine with meals) and swearing, WTF? Turns out she married him because he was sick? You couldn't have just been his friend? Got him a dog? Help with his son because you are a friend? Nope lets get married, dump the guy I love madly because you need to get me in the sack ET style. Was this the authors convoluted way of showing that time changes everyone? The choices you make when you are young follow you throughout life? Who knows and my head hurts that I even tried to understand it.

....Then later after Eliot phones home, you can come back to me like nothing happened. sound good? Not hardly.

Does this convoluted mess sound even remotely logical to you ladies? Arrrrgggghhhhh!

I actually just read a professional review from a guy at the Las Vegas times that made me laugh: Dear John may seem like a tearjerker romance aimed at the demographic that left piles of wet tissues at screenings of The Notebook, but it's not. It's a morality tale that demonstrates the consequences of c**k-blocking

Not bad. Started slowly but then was quite moving and particularly between father and son in the hospital. Nothing really new here though between the guy and the girl though. Good performances though.

I know it's mentioned that the author of the book Dear John is the same guy who wrote The Notebook, but it's also the guy who wrote A Walk To Remember and Nights In Rodanthe. One great movie and a lot of below average to average one's doesn't show very much promise. Dear John's w...( read more)eakness may not be the writer, but it could include the director, editor and casting.

Channing Tatum is about as good an actor as Steven Segal. Who would pick him for this role? I could probably have done a better job, and I've never acted in my life. Hopefully this will prove his range and he'll be limited to movies like GI Joe. But, as my wife says, "he's nice to look at." Great. That pretty much seals it. Amanda Seyfried showed some chops. When the movie attempted to pick up toward the end, she lead the charge. Too bad no one else followed. She's the only actor who stood out.

The casting directors' previous movies aren't much better, and none stand out as a strongly cast movie that relied on the strength and chemistry of actors.

The story is messy and there is too much that happens too quickly. The movie tries to sort itself at the end, but by then it's too late. And, as I've mentioned before, there isn't a strong enough cast to make you forget how lame/weak/boring the rest of the movie is. There is too much piled on at the end.

It's also hard to get around knowing the lifestyle these people have. That's personal, but it's still hard to get over.

Lasse Hallström has done some GREAT films. I don't know if the editor helped screw this one up, but with the quality of what Hallström has done, I would expect so much more.

It's a chick-flick, so I can't just say "don't go see it." People still will. Please don't pay for it though.

I expected so much from this film and after finishing it I couldn't quite understand what on earth was the director thinking finishing a movie like this. It felt like a Nicholas Sparks kinda movie but sometimes it didn't. On a plus side the movie moves you and you can feel thru s...( read more)ome good acting from the main characters that there love was really deep and real and that's always great on a love story. I would have like to see more of the ending, I wish they would have elaborate it more, it really left me wanting for more and I still can't decide if that's a good thing.

Here's a summary of what this movie is about : While John is on leave in his hometown, he finds Savannah, a college student visiting the town. Although love was unexpected, it doesn't mean they didn't find it. With the knowledge of John having to leave for the army, their love still lives, until his re-signs on due to the 9/11 attack. Troubles invade and their love put on hold. One cannot bear it anymore; can the other?

There is not much point throwing Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried into a movie together if they can't devote every waking minute to making out. Love dating UK

Kurt Loder, MTV

The director plays it straight, and invites us to sniffle along if we want. There's something kind of admirable about this, I guess, in a going-down-with-the-ship sort of way. Teens Ass

Seyfried's performance is lovely. Her character may be sweet, but she's also marvelously direct, two qualities that Seyfried holds in balance perfectly. Huge Dildos

Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal

Though Ms. Seyfried is a lovely actress, her inexperience shows in her climactic scenes, which aren't written very well to begin with, while Mr. Tatum's stolid reserve decays into dull passivity. Download Proposal The Movie

Mostly, this movie is about two pretty actors moodily looking at each other with their pretty eyes -- and, for those seeking a little romance at the multiplex, that's often just enough. Sexy dating UK
